American Foods Group will be closing its Skylark Meats facility in Omaha, NE, by the end of August.
The plant specializes in liver and variety meat products, including pork feet, neckbones and hocks, and beef marrow bones, tripe, liver and others. In a filing with the Nebraska Department of Labor, Skylark said the closure is expected to be permanent, and the last day of business will be Aug. 25.
A total of 218 employees is expected to be laid off, and the company said it is “encouraging employees to apply for positions at affiliated facilities.” The plant becomes the second meat plant in the state to close this year, following Tyson Foods’ closure of its Lexington, NE, beef plant in January.
