The Lonesome River Ranch near Anselmo, NE, was the site of the 2017 Cattlemen’s Ball dedicated to fighting cancer and helping the local community. Thanks to the generosity of Nebraska’s citizens, this year’s event raised $1,014,300. The Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center of Omaha, which opened this June, received $904,000 to continue “changing forever the way cancer is diagnosed and treated.” Cattlemen’s Ball committee members Don and Deb Cantrell, Jeff and Karen Evans, Jeff and Lisa Johnson, and Jim and Cindy Duncan also presented checks totaling $90,300 to 30 different local fire/rescue/ambulance agencies, local medical centers, as well as FFA groups. After expenses, $20,000 is retained by the Cattlemen’s Ball advisory board to assist with next year’s event. The 2018 Cattlemen’s Ball will be held June 1-2 at the Hergott Farm near Hebron, NE.
