The Canadian Cattle Association, National Cattle Feeders’ Association and Canadian Beef Breeds Council have created a Traceability Task Force to examine opportunities and challenges related to beef cattle traceability, RealAgriculture reported.
The group will focus on developing outcomes needed to support disease response and emergency preparedness while protecting producers and the industry. Members will evaluate whether those goals are best achieved through regulations, industry-led initiatives or a combination of both.
The task force will ultimately recommend an industry policy position and implementation roadmap. Appointed members represent the entire beef supply chain, including seedstock producers, cow-calf operations, backgrounders and feedlots.
