Bundy trial false start

Cliven Bundy speaking in July 2014 at a forum hosted by the American Academy for Constitutional Education at the Burke Basic School in Mesa

The federal trial for Cliven Bundy was set to begin yesterday, but was delayed again regarding the handling of video surveillance evidence. It was revealed yesterday that the government had been monitoring the Bundy house. Bundy’s lawyer asked the judge to throw out the case, but as of Wednesday morning local reports indicated the case was to be stalled for at least a week. The trial relates to the 2014 Bunkerville, NV, armed standoff against BLM officials. The standoff came after almost two decades of Bundy refusing to pay fees for his grazing allotment. In 2014, BLM officials attempted to round up Bundy’s cattle, which sparked the standoff and drew dozens of armed supporters to the ranch. Bundy is charged with over a dozen felonies. His sons Ammon and Ryan have also been charged for their actions at the Bunkerville standoff. Ammon and Ryan were also party to the 2016 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, but they were acquitted in the separate trial for that event.
