The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Cedar City Field Office in Utah was set to begin a wild horse gather on Aug. 13 in Beaver, Iron and Millard counties, targeting the Sulphur Herd Management Area.

With the current wild horse population at 606 horses, far exceeding the appropriate management level of 165-250 animals, the gather aims to remove approximately 420 horses using helicopter drive-trapping. Population growth suppression will be applied to selected mares to control future increases. Removed horses will be relocated to the Axtell Off-Range Facility in Utah. The gather is expected to last about two weeks.
