China will resume imports of Canadian beef and pork four months after Beijing blocked shipments amid a diplomatic feud between the two countries.
“Good news for Canadian farmers today: Canadian pork and beef exports to China will resume,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.
China halted imports from Canada in June, citing forged export certifications. The resolution of resuming imports came after both countries recently elected new ambassadors.
China is the fifth largest market for Canadian beef, according to the Canadian Meat Council (CMC).
“Our long-standing trade relationship with China is very important to both sides and this represents an important step for both countries,” said Chris White, President of the CMC.
