170 pregnant ewes die in WY barn fire

Wyoming sheep rancher Guy Edwards faced devastating loss early the morning of May 5 when a fire destroyed his barn and 170 pregnant ewes located north of Wright, the Cowboy State Daily reported.

After wrapping up a long day of work just after midnight, Edwards awoke around 5 a.m. to find his barn engulfed in flames. Nearly all the ewes were pregnant, representing his entire lamb crop for the year. Although he still has 120 ewes, they are not expected to lamb.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Campbell County Fire Department. Edwards expressed gratitude to firefighters, though the blaze was too advanced to save the structure or animals.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Edwards and his family.
