West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) broke ground Nov. 10 on a $15 million research feedlot and education complex designed to advance beef production science and training.
Funded by donors, USDA grants and a 42-acre land gift, the project includes a feed mill, processing facility and high-tech monitoring systems. “This facility embodies the Panhandle’s innovation and collaboration,” said President Walter Wendler. Construction begins this winter, with completion expected in 2026.
According to the university, the WTAMU Foundation Research Feedlot and the Paul F. and Virginia J. Engler Foundation Feedlot Education Facility will strengthen the university’s role in large-animal teaching and research through the Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences.
