The Trump administration announced it would be withdrawing from 66 international organizations, calling them “wasteful, ineffective and harmful.”
On Feb. 4, 2025, President Donald Trump issued Executive Order 14199, directing the secretary of state to conduct a review of all international intergovernmental organizations to which the U.S. belongs. Following Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s report, Trump determined that it is “contrary to the interests of the United States to remain a member of, participate in, or otherwise provide support to” a total of 66 organizations.
Organizations included in the withdrawal order include the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, International Solar Alliance, United Nations (UN) Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and others.
