In a landmark step for Utah County’s future, federal, state and local leaders signed the Strawberry Valley Project 1920 Act Conversion Contract at the Bureau of Reclamation’s Provo office.
The agreement allows up to 61,000 acre-feet of irrigation water—long used for commercial agriculture and residential landscaping—to be converted for municipal and industrial use, supplying about 183,000 homes annually. Developed in collaboration with agricultural water users and cities such as Spanish Fork and Payson, the plan supports rapid population growth while preserving the farming heritage. By relying on existing infrastructure, it avoids new construction and promotes sustainability, ensuring a reliable water and agricultural balance for decades to come.
