Story Short: USCA chairman serves on USDA committee

U.S. Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) announced Patrick Robinette, chairman of the Independent Processing Committee, will serve on USDA’s National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection.

The USDA committee advises the secretary of Agriculture on food safety policies that will contribute to USDA’s regulatory policy development.

Robinette and his family own Micro Summit Processors, a federally-inspected processing facility in Micro, NC, specializing in cattle, pigs, lambs and goats. The family also has a grass-based cattle operation.

USCA’s Independent Processing Committee was formed during the pandemic to advance policies that benefit independent processors and the committee worked with members of Congress to pass the Small Packer Overtime and Holiday Fee Relief for COVID–19 Act of 2020, which reduced inspection fees during the pandemic to help alleviate supply chain issues.
