The Sustainable Beef plant in North Platte, NE, is one step closer to breaking ground as the city council voted unanimously Dec. 7 to approve the redevelopment plan to sell the retired city lagoon and approved a $21.5 million tax increment financing (TIF) bond.
The TIF bond gives Sustainable Beef the ability to gradually recover its costs to buy the site, install city utilities and raise the 8-to-10-foot lagoon’s base. The North Platte Community Redevelopment Agency will meet to finalize the redevelopment contract in January.
David Briggs, Sustainable Beef CEO, told the city council he is confident financing will be finalized by then and is “excited to get to this point and looks forward to starting construction here in the first quarter of 2022.” According to the North Platte Telegraph, Briggs, along with co-owners Rusty Kemp and Trey Wasserburger, thanked North Platte leaders and residents for their support.
“This started a couple of years ago as a pipe dream,” Wasserburger said. “I’m proud of North Platte and the way they handled it tonight and the overwhelming support.”
