Story Short: Study shows 29% of jobs tied to ag

The sixth annual Feeding the Economy report, commissioned by 30 food and agriculture groups, showed that 7 percent of the nation’s economy and 29 percent of American jobs are linked to the food and agriculture sectors, either directly or indirectly.

The report stated the total food and industry economic impact was $7.43 trillion, including over 43.4 million jobs with total wages of $2.3 trillion.

The study measures the number of jobs in food and agriculture related industries, the salaries paid to employees, the value added and the total output. In addition, it measures the economic impact of the suppliers that support the food and agriculture industries, as well as those industries supported by the induced spending of direct and supplier industries.

A copy of the report is available at feedingtheeconomy.com.
