Story Short: No recent CA wolf depredations

Officials at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife released the quarterly wolf activity report, showing no suspected depredations or investigations during the quarter.

A survey of known wolf packs showed the Lassen Pack with three adults and four pups, despite the Dixie Fire burning through their territory. The Whaleback Pair in Siskiyou County has seven pups, and the Beckwourth Pack, which ranges throughout the Plumas and Sierra counties, is not known to have any pups.

The report also confirmed that lone wolf OR-103 remained in Siskiyou County during the quarter, and OR-93 was detected in Ventura County in late September. However, the report noted, “We have regularly detected dispersing wolves in California since December 2011, and it is likely that a small number of uncollared dispersers exist in the state at any moment in time.”
