Story Short: Lab meat company breaks ground in US

BELIEVER Meats, a cultivated meat company, has officially broken ground in the U.S. on its first facility.

The facility is set to be 200,000 square-feet and will be the largest cultivated meat production center in the world, with the ability to produce at least 10,000 metric tons of lab-grown meat without slaughtering animals, the company said. It is located in Wilson, NC.

“Our brand has continually proven our commitment to scale production technology and capacity, and with our new U.S. production center, we are one step closer to commercialization,” said CEO Nicole Johnson-Hoffman.

“BELIEVER is setting the standard globally to make it possible for future generations to eat and enjoy meat.”

The company is investing an initial amount of $123.35 million in the facility, which will include a research and development and innovation center, a contemporary kitchen, and offices and conference room spaces.

“Through affordability, approachability, and availability, we want our products to become the meat of choice globally, and with the announcement of our new production facility, we are well on our way,” said Johnson-Hoffman.
