Story Short: July wolf depredations in OR

The gray wolf is still protected in western Oregon

For the month of July through July 21, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife reported at least 10 livestock had been attacked or killed by wolves. A total of four incidences were investigated by the department, with two incidences confirmed as wolf kills.

On July 4, officials found nine sheep in Union County to be victims of wolf depredations. A GPS-collared Ukiah Pack wolf was tracked to be near the depredations, along with tracks of multiple other wolves. A total of three dead ewes, four dead lambs and two injured lambs were found.

On July 14, a producer in Baker County found a dead 5.5-month-old calf, which officials confirmed as a wolf kill from a Lookout Mountain Pack wolf.

A third incident on July 1 in Umatilla County also involved a dead calf, but officials were not sure if the death was wolf related. A fourth incident in Baker County on July 13 involving a dead calf was determined not to be wolf related.
