Story Short: British lamb back in the US

British lamb has been exported to the U.S. for the first time in more than 20 years.

The United Kingdom (U.K.) confirmed in a statement a shipment was flown to the U.S. containing lamb produced by the meat processor Dunbia from its site in Carmarthenshire, Wales. In December 2021, USDA agreed to open the U.S. market to British lamb following the proper inspections.

The U.K. government estimates that lamb exports to America could be worth up to Ј37 million ($41 million) in the first five years of trade.

“Seeing our world-class lamb back on American menus is fantastic news for our farmers,” said U.K. Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch. “Now they can sell to a consumer market of over 300 million people, which supports jobs and growth in a vital British industry.”
