Nebraska and Colorado are joining the list of states opposed to cultivated meat products.
On Jan. 14, Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen (R) announced his support for Legislative Bill 246, which would prohibit cultivated protein products in the state.
The legislation was introduced, at the request of the governor, by Sen. Barry DeKay (R-Niobrara) and has seven co-sponsors. In Colorado, Rep. Ty Winter (R-47) and Sen. Rod Pelton (R-35) introduced House Bill 25-1064, which would also prohibit the sale or manufacturing of lab-grown meat in the state. Florida and Alabama became the first states last summer to outlaw the sale of meat alternatives.
