A bipartisan alliance of 11 attorneys general are supporting ranchers in a lawsuit over the “Product of USA” label.
In an amicus brief, attorneys general for Colorado, Kansas, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming pledged their support for ranchers against manufacturers who sell foreign-sourced beef under the U.S. label.
“Selling lower-quality foreign beef with a ‘Product of USA’ label misleads consumers and harms the reputation and financial interests of American ranchers,” said South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley. ”Consumers should not be fooled into paying a premium price for substandard foreign beef products under a false ‘Product of USA’ label.”
