The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) has confirmed three calf losses due to attacks from wolves belonging to the Rogue Pack. The attacks between Jan. 3 and Jan. 10 happened on private property in the Boundary Butte area of Jackson County approximately 450 to 500 yards from the livestock owner’s residence. Losses include a 250-lb. calf on Jan. 3, a 300-lb. calf on Jan. 9, and a 300-lb. calf on Jan. 10. GPS collar data from OR54, a female of the Rogue Pack, shows that she was in the area of each attack. Evidence at the scenes including wolf tracks, evidence of struggle, and bite marks on remaining calf carcasses were enough for wildlife officials to classify the cause of death in each incident as confirmed wolf kills.
