Record meat exports from Australia in 2024

Australia reported its largest red meat export volume in history, shipping 2.24 million tons to 104 countries in 2024, according to Meat & Livestock Australia.

This included record shipments of beef (1.34 million tons), lamb (359,229 tons), mutton (255,098 tons) and goat meat (51,489 tons). The U.S. emerged as the top beef, lamb and goat meat market, while China led in mutton imports. Beef exports surged 22% from 2023, surpassing the 2014 record by 4%.

Exports to the U.S. climbed 60% to 394,716 tons and Southeast Asia rose 33% to 177,684 tons. Grain-fed beef also set a new record with 375,195 tons exported.
