PLC accepting public lands issues proposals

The Public Lands Council (PLC) is now accepting applications for proposals related to public lands ranching, natural resource stewardship, and other related issues. Grant awards will fund projects from September 2021 through September 2022.

The Public Lands Endowment Trust was established to protect, enhance and preserve public lands and livestock grazing on public lands, according to PLC. Interested applicants may apply to receive funding for research and promotion proposals. Each year, the PLC board of directors identifies certain issues for applicants to consider when applying.

“These areas often include scientific questions raised during the course of the previous year, upcoming issues the organization intends to address, and other projects that support the cultural, economic, and ecological nature of a ranching enterprise,” PLC stated in a release.

This year, the board chose four specific research areas for consideration: carbon storage; livestock and wildlife; multiple use; and wildlife.

Applicants must detail in their application how their proposal meets the mission and purpose of the trust and include objectives, methodology, publication and education plans, collaborative agreements, and a budget.

Applications are due by July 16 and can be found at publiclandscouncil.org under the Opportunities and Funding tabs. Proposals will be evaluated by the board of directors during PLC’s annual meeting in September. A representative may be required to submit their proposal in person at the meeting in Seaside, OR, Sept. 8-10. — WLJ
