People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is suing the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport in Sweetwater County, WY, after the airport rejected the group’s anti-leather luggage ad.
The lawsuit alleges the airport’s “newfound” advertising policy is “unconstitutionally vague and inherently viewpoint-discriminatory” and a violation of the First Amendment.
The ad features the question, “Was She Killed to Make Your Carry-On?” with an edited graphic of a young cow inside of a leather travel bag. The remainder of the ad reads, “Cruelty doesn’t fly. Choose vegan.”
PETA is seeking an order requiring the airport to run the ad on the same terms offered to other advertisers, along with an order enjoining the airport from enforcing its advertising policy.
