Female Mexican wolf 2754, also known as Asha, was captured north of Interstate 40 near Coyote, NM, by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish using a helicopter on Dec. 9.
This recent capture marks the second time Asha has been documented in this region. Following the capture, she was relocated to the Sevilleta Wolf Management Facility and paired with a male wolf to enhance the likelihood of successful pup production in the upcoming year. In late October 2023, Asha was observed leaving the Mexican Wolf Experimental Population Area, spending several weeks traversing between the San Pedro Mountains and the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
Born in the Rocky Prairie Pack in Arizona in 2021, Asha was fitted with a radio collar in the fall of 2022. After dispersing from her natal pack and crossing out of the Mexican Wolf Experimental Population Area in January 2023, she was temporarily held in captivity near Angel Fire, NM. She was eventually translocated back to the wild in Arizona in June 2023.
