Western Legacy Development Corp. is still searching for a site for its proposed $1.1 billion meat processing facility after being rejected by two cities.
According to Meatingplace, developers in Rapid City, SD—the original site for the plant—said the industrial park was not large enough to accommodate a sizable plant. Earlier in September, rumors circulated that Cheyenne, WY, would be the next choice, but Mayor Patrick Collins said it could not meet the water demands for the proposed 8,000-head plant.
According to Meatingplace, Megan Kingsbury, president and CEO of Western Development, confirmed they were looking at Cheyenne and that there are several states they are looking at, but she declined to name other locations under consideration.
Kingsbury said they still plan to break ground in 2023, with an anticipated completion date of 2026.
