Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) appointed Meghan Hertel as director of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).
Hertel most recently served as deputy secretary of biodiversity and habitat at the California Natural Resources Agency, where she helped advance the state’s 30×30 initiative to conserve 30% of California’s lands and coastal waters by 2030. During that work, Hertel collaborated closely with the California Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), one of roughly two dozen organizations represented on the 30×30 Partnership Coordinating Committee.
Previously, she served as the North American director at the Land Life Company and spent more than a decade at Audubon California.
CCA said it looks forward to working with Hertel as it continues advocating for its policy priorities before the department.
