Milestones: Green from the ground up

The New Mexico Cattle Growers’ Association (NMCGA) Green from the Ground Up award is appointed to an individual whose leadership and innovation has helped to hold land, water, wildlife and livestock together in an in-sync ecosystem.

The association proudly honors Linda Davis of the CS Ranch in Cimarron for her resolve to the ranching landscape of New Mexico. At a young age, Linda Davis knew she wanted to be a rancher, following in the footsteps of her father and great-grandfather, who established the historic Tequesquite Ranch of Albert, NM, in 1878.

A strong New Mexican heritage in ranching helps to shape her management decisions today, always with the future of her family in mind. Living on two historic cattle ranches in northeastern New Mexico, the Tequesquite and CS Ranch, Linda has made her life—with husband Les—one of tending to cattle and their six children.

Together, Les and Linda were recognized and inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, OK, in 2000. After her husband’s passing in 2001, Linda remained active in ranch operations, serving as an EMT with the Cimarron Volunteer Ambulance Service and remaining steadfast to the western heritage that they both loved and shared.

Additionally, Linda is recognized for her prestigious honors and decades of service to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, the Beef Promotion Operating Committee, the American National CattleWomen organization, the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and the New Mexico Beef Council.

NMCGA extends a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to Linda for a life spent preserving and protecting the ranching legacy of New Mexico.
