The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has withdrawn draft migratory bird protection rules aimed at protecting birds by preventable hazards.
During the Trump administration, the agency rolled back regulations under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, but the Biden administration reinstated them in 2021. The new administration also planned to issue regulations to protect birds from infrastructure but has chosen to withdraw the plans.
“Despite the lack of regulations, this agency still has the power to levy fines against parties that cause the death of birds, and federal officials should use their authority to do so,” said Tara Zuardo of the Center for Biological Diversity.
