The Meat Institute urged President Donald Trump to swiftly implement two executive orders to ease regulatory burdens and address consumer meat prices in a Jan. 27 letter from President and CEO Julie Anna Potts.
The organization also calls for rescinding costly USDA competition and market integrity rules, poultry payment systems, salmonella regulations and an Environmental Protection Agency waste limitations rule that could force facility closures.
Additionally, the Meat Institute supports modernized pork and poultry inspection systems and advocates for rule changes to lift outdated line speed restrictions. These actions, they assert, will reduce costs, improve efficiency and benefit both producers and consumers.
