McDonald’s collaborates for sustainable beef

McDonald’s USA, Lopez Foods and Syngenta North America have announced a collaboration to improve beef production sustainability by enhancing feed efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions per pound of meat produced.

The effort centers on Enogen corn, a feed ingredient from Syngenta, which research shows can improve cattle feed efficiency by about 5% when used as silage or grain. This advancement could annually save 196 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, 69 acres of feed cropland and 6 million gallons of water per 1,000 cattle, with McDonald’s aiming to scale the program to achieve significant global impact.
