USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Oklahoma-based BrucePac is recalling approximately 9.98 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The products, produced between June 19 and Oct. 8, were distributed to establishments and institutions nationwide. Affected products bear establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” under the USDA mark of inspection. The issue was discovered during routine FSIS testing, which confirmed listeria in BrucePac ready-to-eat chicken. USDA said no reported illnesses were caused by the consumption of the products.
In a separate recall, Food Safety News reported that various beef jelly tongue products were recalled in Canada due to listeria contamination, as discovered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Several illnesses have been reported related to these products. The recall includes two dozen items sold by various retailers in different forms, some without labels. Consumers are urged to contact their retailer if unsure whether they purchased the recalled product. A complete list is available at tinyurl.com/ew56s7f9.
