Legal Ledger Brief: WA puts grouse on endangered list

The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission voted April 23 to upgrade the greater sage-grouse’s status from “threatened” to “endangered” on the state endangered species list.

The species has been listed as threatened in Washington since 1998, but Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists “remained concerned when last year’s wildfires burned over significant leks (mating grounds), and nesting and wintering habitat of the already dwindling population.”
