USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has announced its intent to prepare a joint environmental impact report and environmental statement for wildlife damage management activities in California.
APHIS has entered a memo of understanding with the California Department of Food and Agriculture to develop a joint environmental review of the agencies’ roles in wildlife damage management in the state.
Analyzed activities may include reducing damage to agricultural resources, infrastructure and property; damage by invasive species; reducing threats to human health and safety; and protecting endangered and threatened species.
Public comments will be accepted until Nov. 10 by searching for Docket ID APHIS-2020-0081 at regulations.gov. Two virtual public meetings will be held during the scoping period on Oct. 13 and Oct. 27, 2020. Details for participation in these meetings can be found at www.CaliforniaWDM.org.
