Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) and a group of bipartisan senators have introduced the USA Beef Act, limiting the use of the “Product of the USA” label to beef born, raised and processed in the U.S.
“As I continue to work with my colleagues on reestablishing mandatory country-of-origin labeling, we must fix the current labels to protect consumers and producers,” said Rounds in a statement.
“Consumers deserve to know where their beef comes from and accurate, transparent labeling supports American farmers and ranchers. It’s long past time we fix this once and for all.”
A companion bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Matt Rosendale (R-MT-At Large). The bill is endorsed by U.S. Cattlemen’s Association and Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund United Stockgrowers of America.
