The U.S. and European Union (EU) have concluded adjustments to the EU’s World Trade Organization (WTO) agricultural quotas following the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) withdrawal from the EU.
The agreement covers the division of dozens of quotas, with part of the volume remaining with the EU’s 27 nations and part going to the UK. The quotas include beef, dairy, poultry, rice, fruits and vegetables, and wine that encompass billions of euros worth of trade.
“It gives certainty and stability to agricultural trade and our markets,” EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciejowski said in a statement. “I am particularly pleased that this agreement marks the significance of our trade and economic relationship.
“This sends a good signal of our commitment to work together both bilaterally and in the WTO framework. I want to thank my team and our U.S. colleagues for a job well done.”
