In early December, the Muscogee Nation opened its new $10 million processing facility, Looped Square Meat Co., just outside of Glenpool, OK. The plant faced setbacks from community members, who argued the plant would affect nearby towns’ water quality.
The plant encompasses 25,000 square feet and also contains a retail market. “The Looped Square Meat Co. addresses our need to combat food insecurity while promoting food sovereignty and providing jobs and an economic driver to the area.
This is what it truly means to take care of our Reservation,” said Principal Chief David Hill in a statement. The plant has the capability to process beef, pork, sheep, goat and deer.
