Legal Ledger Brief: FSIS extends salmonella comment period

USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is extending the comment deadline for a petition asking to declare salmonella as an adulterant in raw meat and poultry.

The petition was posted Jan. 22 and the original comment deadline was March 23.

However, FSIS was requested to extend the deadline an additional 60 days. The new comment period will close May 22.

Those interested in submitting comments may do so at regulations.gov by searching for Docket ID FSIS-2020-0007, or by mail sent to Docket Clerk, USDA, FSIS, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Mailstop 3758, Room 6065, Washington, D.C. 20250-3700.
