USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is conducting its first ever National Agroforestry Survey. Data collection will run from Feb. 1 to April 5 through surveys sent to 11,100 farmers and ranchers around the country.
The survey will gather information on the five agroforestry practices used for climate, conservation and production benefits, including windbreaks, silvopasture, riparian forest buffers, alley cropping, forest farming and multistory cropping.
“For the first time ever, ag producers have the opportunity to share the dynamic ways they manage valuable agroforestry resources,” said NASS Agricultural Statistics Board Chair Joseph Parsons. The data will be used for programs and policies to benefit landowners and farmers, according to NASS.
