The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is launching a 30-day scoping period through March 5 for the Cedar Mountains Herd Management Area outside of Salt Lake City, UT.
The Salt Lake City Field Office is proposing to remove more than 600 horses from the herd management area, as the population is estimated at 790 animals, while the appropriate management level is only 190-390 horses. The proposed gather would take place no sooner than fall 2022.
The BLM will conduct scoping and then prepare an environmental assessment, which will disclose project details and alternatives.
