Bison producers are now eligible for aid under USDA’s second round of Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) payments.
“Bison producers now have the ability to receive assistance in weathering the economic storm that has been wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dave Carter, executive director of the National Bison Association. “This is welcome news, and we thank everyone who helped bring our ranchers and farmers into this program.”
The association originally contacted Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue in late March to be included in any COVID-19 assistance packages, and shared their frustration that producers were not included in CFAP packages announced in May and July. Payments will be calculated by the amount of the producer’s eligible sales in calendar year 2019, multiplied by the payment rate for that range.
