The USDA’s Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is awarding $14.4 million to 76 different projects with states, universities, and other partners to strengthen programs to protect animal health.
The funding will support projects on increasing practical livestock biosecurity measures, as well as advancing rapid depopulation and disposal abilities to be used during high-consequence animal disease outbreaks. It will also support projects to enhance the early detection of high-consequence animal diseases and improve emergency response capabilities at the National Animal Health Laboratory Network veterinary diagnostic laboratories.
Several projects include improving diagnostic testing for high concern diseases, including African swine fever, classical swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza. A complete list of projects can be found at aphis.usda.gov by searching for “animal health farm bill funding.”
