According to Reuters, JBS is supplying animal waste from its operations abroad for renewable aviation fuel production and is exploring a similar initiative in Brazil through its Friboi brand.
Over the past two years, JBS has diverted 1.2 million metric tons of beef tallow and pork lard from its U.S., Canada and Australia units toward sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other renewable fuels. In Brazil, Friboi is studying the feasibility of using animal waste for local SAF production. Additionally, JBS is investigating renewable fuel production for ships through Biopower, which operates three biofuel plants in Brazil.
JBS global chief sustainability officer Jason Weller said reusing animal waste contributes to environmental protection and aids in the decarbonization of the aviation sector, reinforcing JBS’s commitment to responsible waste management and a circular economy.
