The Idaho Department of Fish and Game removed three wolves from Unit 4 in the Panhandle elk zone during targeted management actions on Feb. 21 and 22.

The effort aims to reduce predation and help improve elk survival in a herd that has struggled to grow.

Officials say the goal is not to eliminate wolves but maintain a smaller, self-sustaining population while continuing habitat improvements and expanded hunting opportunities for predators.
