A bipartisan pair of senators have introduced the “Next Generation in Agriculture Act,” which seeks to extend funding programs for beginning farmers and ranchers. Sens.
Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Susan Collins (R-ME) described the bill as primarily extending the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development program beyond 2018 and securing increasing funds for it in the next several years.
“We must do more to cultivate the next generation of family farmers, and that’s what this bipartisan bill is about—giving young Americans the tools they need to succeed in agriculture and keep our rural communities strong,” said Heitkamp in her announcement of the bill.
It was introduced to the Senate on April 26 and is numbered S. 2762.
