The House Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife and Fisheries held a legislative hearing on March 25 regarding the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and gray wolf protections.
The subcommittee discussed the Pet and Livestock Protection Act of 2025, which would remove the gray wolf from the ESA list and return the species to state management, along with the ESA Amendments Act of 2025, which would reform the ESA and streamline its permitting process.
“It is time that Congress brings the ESA back to its original intent, which is recovering listed species to the point where they no longer need to be protected,” said Chair Bruce Westerman (R-AR-04).
