A coalition of 10 environmental groups filed a suit challenging the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to pull its rulemaking to further regulate wastewater discharges from meat and poultry facilities.
“EPA knows it’s possible to reduce slaughterhouse pollution without raising prices but instead, it’s chosen to prioritize corporate profits over clean water and public health,” said Alexis Andiman of Earthjustice.
On Aug. 30, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced the agency would withdraw its proposed rule that would affect effluent limitation guidelines and standards. The coalition filed their petition with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
