Environmental groups are pushing back against a petition filed by ranching groups in Colorado seeking to pause reintroduction efforts in the state.

“Industry bullies are trying to undermine the will of voters who want a thriving wolf population in Colorado’s wild areas,” said Alli Henderson of the Center for Biological Diversity.

In September, the Middle Park Stockgrowers Association and 20 other industry groups penned a letter to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), asking the agency to refrain from releasing wolves in Middle Park and to not release the remaining wolves in the Copper Creek Pack in Colorado.

In a 284-page petition dated Dec. 18, environmental groups urge the CPW Commission to reject the ranchers’ petition.
