A coalition of animal welfare and environmental groups sent a petition to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to adopt a new approach to managing grizzly bears in the Northern Rocky Mountains.
The petition comes shortly before the agency is expected to make a decision on whether to delist the bears.
“This petition recognizes that we need to have a real recovery of grizzly bears, not delisting that would open them up to large-scale killing and reverse decades of conservation work,” said Ben Greuell of the Sierra Club, one of the petitioners.
