Canadian pork producer duBreton is alerting consumers to a regulatory change that will allow beef and pork from cloned animals to enter Canada’s food supply without safety reviews or labeling.
According to duBreton, Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency plan to exclude cloned animals from the “novel foods” definition, eliminating pre-market assessments.
“Consumers have the right to decide for themselves,” said CEO Vincent Breton. “Without labeling, there’s no way to tell which brands use cloned animals.” duBreton is urging food companies to adopt voluntary, verifiable labels to preserve transparency and consumer trust while ensuring responsibly raised pork remains accessible to Canadians.
