Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) re-released gray wolf 2403 in Grand County on Dec. 11, after the animal was captured in New Mexico by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.

The wolf, a former member of the Copper Creek Pack, dispersed in fall 2025 before crossing state lines. CPW said the release site was selected to support wolf pairing, access to natural prey and reduced proximity to livestock, while specific location details will remain undisclosed. The capture and return were conducted under a multistate memorandum of understanding among Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah.
